Back for his 21st year, the Tumbleweed Triathlon — benefiting the Medical Center Health Foundation — will be held Sunday at the University of Texas Permian Basin Pool, 4901 E. University Blvd. The whistle sounds at 7.30am and all competitors must report to the briefing 30 minutes before.

An event sanctioned by the American Triathlon, participants will participate in a three-part race, consisting of a 20 km flat bike on wide-shouldered roads, an out-and-back race on the UTPB campus and a 400 swim meters in a 50- meter swimming pool. Chip timing – when a runner wears an electronic device registered with their race number that alerts strategically placed chip readers once the runner has passed them – will be used.

Athletes can register until 5 p.m. Saturday and pick up their kits on race day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the MCH Mission Fitness Center, 8050 E. Highway 191. Bring ID and a USAT membership card, if applicable. Non-USAT members will be required to pay an additional USAT entry fee of $15 in addition to the $45 race fee. Admission is limited to 112 people.
