My bodybuilding coaching clients are predominantly Millennials, the generation that currently holds the most purchasing power in the United States and around the world. Plus, they’re the right age to indulge in a fantastic hobby like weight training.

Athletes of the millennial generation, and especially bodybuilders, differ greatly from those of the previous generation. In terms of goals and motivation, several factors set them apart. In the first place, they are very concerned about the environment and about health. For millennial bodybuilders, lasting goals (not short-term efforts) will be the key to achieving their long-term wellness goals.

Then, social media and communication technologies fundamentally revolutionized the entertainment and publishing industries (including all sports, and especially bodybuilding). Because of these technological advancements, millennials are more likely to prefer online coaching over in-person coaching. With 24/7 access to technology, they find it more convenient to train with a mobile coach via an app at their fingertips.

With the insights I have gathered about millennials and the fact that my brand and approach is presented to them virtually through marketing, I know my bodybuilding clients are prepared for a lifelong journey to happiness, health. , vitality and an enviable body. Plus, they don’t want to sacrifice their mental and physical health and want to balance weight training with their many other priorities. Also, I know from my marketing research that there is a 95% chance that the competition they are preparing for in 12 months is not the one on stage, and that the judges are not professional bodybuilders. Daily competition and validation of one’s accomplishments in life tend to occur primarily on Instagram and other less visually appealing social networks, each serving as a judge, moral support and, increasingly, a collective benefactor who sponsors. his trip even financially.

As a hobby, weight training doesn’t pay the bills, and incorporating new, fairly demanding routines into everyday life comes at a cost. With student loans and new mortgages, the stakes are high when trying to find time for a hobby that doesn’t make money. You will learn possible strategies for incorporating strength training into the day, including going to bed earlier and starting the day earlier, going for short hikes in the woods on weekends, or playing tennis at the club. Finding a job with a flexible schedule is also a great idea: I myself worked in a wonderful company that allowed me (and encouraged!) To work out during lunch breaks.

Globally, the workforce is turning to independent contractors and freelancers, which means that aspiring bodybuilders on Instagram have a great opportunity here. As a personal brand coach, I advise my clients to start building the foundation for their personal brand, which could eventually pave the way for monetization of the non-paid hobby.

Developing beautiful, symmetrical muscles is not enough to become an Instagram celebrity, so millennial bodybuilders need skills in art direction, lighting and photography to make their bodies worthy of Instagram judges. Setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely goals for muscle development and strength gains is also SMART and my book “The secrets of natural bodybuilding”Will certainly teach you how to set these goals.

It doesn’t take much to motivate someone to live a healthy, happy life. It’s harder to motivate people to be more disciplined. Visualization could be an important tool in helping us move forward towards what we see. Millennial Bodybuilders are not lacking in visual inspiration thanks to social media. Taking daily gym selfies is a great way to understand your progress and gain the support of your peers, and I recommend it to my clients.
