The Rock Health and Fitness, located at 21-15 31st St., crosses 31st Street to make way for a small-format Target store.

The Rock will move into the basement of the new development that rises at 22-06 31st St, according to Steve Rabinoff, the architect behind the new building. Rabinoff said The Rock had to move because the company “lost its lease.”

The Rock’s manager, Dora Arsenis, confirmed the fitness club was moving, but said the move was not likely until next year. The club owner did not return a request for comment.

Target announced last week that it would be moving into a new development to be built on the site where The Rock is located. The existing building on the site, which also includes stores located between 22-11 and 22-25 31st St., is to be demolished, the Astoria Post first reported last week.

Demolition and construction permits for the future target have not yet been filed with the Department of Buildings.

The new Rock Health and Fitness will occupy 11,551 gross square feet in the basement of the building. The building will also include a TJ Maxx.

Like the existing gym, the new space will be open 24 hours Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
