SAN ANGELO, Texas – Two weeks ago, Shannon Medical Center completed the process of acquiring the assets of San Angelo Community Medical Center. October 24 was the first day of operation of the new establishment. The community health club, which officially belonged to the San Angelo Community Center, is now called Shannon Health Club.

“The bottom line is that things are going well,” said Laura Moore, director of operations for the Shannon Health Club. “Members should not expect any changes, we hope to provide the same great customer service and care for our members as we always have and Shannon will simply improve on everything we have been and hoped to be.”

Regarding the name change, Moore says there won’t be any other significant changes aside from the updated exercise equipment. She has an optimistic point of view for the future of this gymnasium.

“Things will stay the same,” Moore said. “The billing will be the same and our courses will be the same. I think the only changes people could see are improvements. We just hope to move things in a positive direction, not that they haven’t been, but we have a lot to look forward to. I’ll just say that.

With the recent increase in coronavirus cases in Tom Green County, Moore says the gym will continue to follow safety guidelines. Staff will increase disinfection measures as cases continue to grow.

“We need masks and face coverings in the gym, unless you’re six feet away from others, or unless you’re in a classroom,” Moore noted. “We have a small number of classes, so we think we’re safe. We are also improving our cleaning much more often and our limbs are now healthy.

Moore says they offer free tours to anyone interested in becoming a member. For more information, visit the Shannon Health Club website.
