SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Roman Abramovich’s health club, popular with Chelsea Premier League stars, hit by serial thief who stole watches and money from lockers

Members of the Chelsea Health Club and Spa are alarmed to discover they have a serial thief among them.

The exclusive gym adjoins Stamford Bridge football ground and is popular with Chelsea players and staff. Former players Frank Lampard and John Terry are both regulars, while Chelsea legend Didier Drogba said his farewell to the club in tears from inside the lavish spa surroundings.

Now watches and money have been stolen from lockers, and customers have been urged to be careful. “We are working with the police and the security team,” wrote Deputy Director General Jake Helm in a letter to members. “Please help us by being particularly vigilant and alert us to suspicious or loitering behavior.

“We are working with the security team and the police to identify the perpetrator.”

The word from our man in the hot tub is that they are worried that this is an inside job.

“Apparently, we think the thief has a master key,” I am told. “The members are all very nervous. Since some of the Chelsea players have lockers there, I guess their watches are pretty neat.

The Chelsea Health Club is one of London’s most exclusive spas. Annual membership costs £ 2,280 plus a membership fee of £ 450.

Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich is said to have his own private locker room and sauna in the building.

The gym was also the setting for the headphone door, when former manager Jose Mourinho rescinded a sideline ban for Chelsea’s quarter-final with Bayern Munich.

Watching the game from inside the health club, the UEFA bigwigs accused him of providing information to his assistant Rui Faria, who was on the sideline, allegedly hiding an earpiece under his hat.

The Chelsea Health Club admits there is an ongoing investigation but declined to comment.
