A long-standing element of the Estes Park community may soon give way to new business development along one of the busiest accommodation corridors in the Estes Valley. The Rocky Mountain Health Club (RMHC) building and its 1.4 acre lot were recently put up for sale.

Current owners Alix and David LaSalle enjoyed running the popular club, but the construction of the Estes Park Community Center changed their clientele and the market no longer supports a 13,000 square foot gymnasium.

“The location, with those views of the Continental Divide and the elk grazing regularly in the field, is incredibly beautiful,” says Alix. “We will be sad to leave such a delightful property, but we also understand that the community now benefits from more fitness options and that we must also adapt.”

The structure was originally built in 1960 as a restaurant, and its interior still has the cozy fireplaces that decorated this space. In 1983, squash and racquetball courts were added, greatly increasing the size of the building. Since then, the facility has functioned as a health club, serving both locals and tourists. Set on a gentle slope overlooking the valley, the property offers some of the best views in Estes Park – scenery stunning enough to accompany a workout.

But the city is evolving, and this extraordinary place will be too. The LaSalle envision the property could be renovated or redeveloped, either as a hotel to take advantage of double-digit increases in accommodation income in the Estes area, as a restaurant or brasserie, or even as a multi-family dwelling.

David plans to stay in the health and fitness business locally, providing fitness services in a different space in town. “We love the fitness industry,” says David, “both because of our personal commitment to staying healthy so that we can enjoy all that this magical place has to offer, and because it is such a positive atmosphere in which to work and engage with the community. We have come to know so many of our wonderful neighbors and visitors to Estes through OMRM – this business has truly enriched our lives here. We look forward to OMRM 2.0.
