NEWTOWN – The Newtown Township Police Department announced this week that Constable Christopher Signore finished in the top ten among officers who took part in the National Tactical Officers Association’s National SWAT Fitness Qualification Challenge. The Fitness Qualification Challenge consists of numerous fitness and agility assessments for police officers involved in SWAT units.
The goal of the NTOA SWAT Physical Fitness Qualification Challenge is to create a standard of fitness for all SWAT operators to improve the longevity, safety and efficiency of SWAT operators. The test consists of: an 800-meter race performed in police uniform; a 400-meter run performed with a 25-pound object in each hand, wearing a 25-pound vest and gas mask (no filter); three minutes of burpees in police uniform; two minutes of squats performed with a 25 pound object in each hand, a 25 pound vest, and a gas mask; and a minute of pull-ups done in police uniform.
Signore has been with the Newtown Police Department for over three years and was previously employed as a Constable with the Millbourne, Eddystone, Ridley Park, West Whiteland and Aldan Police Departments. A graduate of Ridley High School and Delaware County Community College, Signore is a Use of Force and Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Newtown Police Department and teaches Jiu Jitsu to police officers, with his certification under the GST program. from Gracie University. He is also an operator for the Central Delaware County Swat Team, responsible for special missions as an explosives breaker and sniper. Members of the Radnor Black Student Union deliver gift baskets to Jefferson
Radnor High School students and Black Student Union members Keyara Crawley, Elani Dwyer, Shahminah Mahar-Ullah and Kadijatu Turay delivered nearly 50 gift baskets to Jefferson Hospital on December 10 for distribution to women of color diagnosed with breast cancer. BSU has been collecting items for the baskets since mid-October.
All items were provided by students and community members via an Amazon Wish List and dropped off at RHS and Radnor ABC House. Items donated included hats, scarves, scarves, lip balm, hand sanitizer, feminine products, lotions, soaps and more. Each BSU member also wrote a basket letter expressing their support and concern for the beneficiary.
COVID-19 vaccines and boosters continue to be offered free of charge at Delco
Delaware County will offer the three COVID-19 vaccines – Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson – this Saturday, December 18 at Delaware County Wellness Center in Yeadon and Keystone First Wellness Center in Chester. The first and second doses, as well as the boosters / third doses are available for all individuals.
The Pfizer vaccine is available for people five years of age and older, with a second dose 21 days after the first dose. Parents or guardians must give their consent for children 5 to 17 years old and must plan to be present during the vaccination.
