Steve believes that a holistic approach is needed when it comes to diet and fitness.

Most overweight people aren’t lazy, they just don’t know what to do.

We focus on imparting knowledge beyond physical exercise. if I can put your head back on you properly, your body will line up with that.

What are the 5 ways to do it?

We have what we call the 5 Ps of Weight Loss or the 5 Ps of Wellness.

1. Objective

Why do you want to lose weight is the first question, he says.

People are very focused on the how rather than the why.

Steve Mululu, co-founder – Dream Body Fitness

Want to lose weight because you want to tuck into your skinny jeans? Want to lose weight because you are going on vacation? Want to lose weight for an upcoming ceremony?

These are very strong motivations for the next 6-12 weeks – but what happens after that?

He says the yo-yo effect is common.

Most South Africans lose and gain weight four times a year. They’ve lost the same 5kg over and over again over the past five years – and of course, the flow order.

He thinks there are two reasons people want to lose weight.

There is vanity and there is vitality.

Many people may focus on vanity as the reason, but others also realize that vitality needs to be improved, he notes. They come to the gym because they don’t feel well, feel tired, lack energy, and want to live a better quality of life.

He says this is the important factor for inspiration.

2. Process

Losing weight is not an event, it is a journey.

Steve Mululu, co-founder – Dream Body Fitness

He says we need to take a look at the little bad habits that are now part of our lives and figure out how to change them.

Eating that bagel in the morning, sleeping that extra hour that makes us rush, watching that extra hour of television, that extra glass of wine … these are all processes.

Steve Mululu, co-founder – Dream Body Fitness

Take a look at some little habits you can pull off in your life, he suggests to make the process easier.

Your life will automatically fall into place without you fighting it at all.

3. Planning

Planning your life is the way to be successful, he believes.

Healthy eating, he says, involves taking the time to plan and prepare meals, such as taking a packed lunch to work.

You’re never too busy to plan and prepare meals, he adds. Meal prep is key so you don’t end up with unhealthy convenience options like take out.

4 people

The people around you determine who you are. You are the sum of the 5 people you spend time with.

Steve Mululu, co-founder – Dream Body Fitness

He says that this is not discrimination against body types, but that you should inspire your loved ones to become healthy.

5. Persistence

Because it’s a process and not an event, there may be weeks where you can’t see results, but that’s when you need to persist and keep going, he says.
